Thiruvananthapuram is the knowledge capital of the region boasting of premier R&D institutions of national and international stature such as Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre with its Space Launch Vehicle Design and Development activity which is an integral arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation, employing over 7000 high tech professionals; the Regional Research Laboratory which is home to scientists working in cutting edge research areas of agro processing, chemical technologies, biotechnology, waste water technology, material sciences and mineral processing; the Electronics Research and Development Centre India - ER & DCI, which has established itself as one of India’s premier electronics design and development centers and training centres for IBM mainframes; the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, Kerala’s apex research center for biotechnology; the Tropical and Botanical Research Institute under the Dept. of Biotechnology, Govt. of India; the Centre for Development Studies, a premier Social Science research institution engaged in interdisciplinary research in the development problems in India; the Centre for Earth Science Studies, a centre for excellence in earth sciences.
Technopark
Technopark is a technology park in Thiruvananthapuram, dedicated to IT ventures. Dubbed as the first and largest technology park in India, it was launched in 1990, covering a campus area of nearly 300 acres with 4 million sq. ft. of built-up space and is home to over 160 companies, employing more than 25,000 professionals. The technology park accounts for about 70% of the IT exports from Kerala.
The units in Technopark include domestic firms, joint ventures and subsidiaries of foreign companies engaged in a wide variety of activities, which include embedded software development, smart card technology, enterprise resource planning (ERP), process control software design, engineering and computer-aided design software development, IT Enabled Services (ITES), process re-engineering, animation and e-business.
Technopark is owned and administered by the Government of Kerala and is headed by a Chief Executive Officer. In addition to this, it has a Governing Council and a Program Implementation Board, both of which include top officials of the government. Administrative offices, including that of the CEO, are housed in the Park Centre building. Technopark also hosts a Technology Business Incubation Cell and Software Competency Centre, situated in the Park Centre. The entire campus is Wi-Fi enabled and offers a one-stop solution to all of one’s business needs related to IT, Communication and Entertainment.
Technopark is located adjunct to the main campus of the Kerala University at Karyavattom that has graduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in 41 different departments. The Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management, Kerala (IIITM-K) is located in the Technopark campus and offers postgraduate programs in IT. Technopark's proximity to the Kerala University, IIITM-K, and other premier educational bodies ensures a formidable resource pool of professionally qualified manpower for IT and ITES industries. Currently, about 60,000 graduates, including 15000 top-notch engineers and 5000 English graduates pass out every year.
The IT hub boasts of state-of-the-art worldclass infrastructure, the best class data communication options and is a virtual talent pool of highly qualified professionals.The place has excellent international/domestic air connectivity, being a mere 20 minutes away from Trivandrum airport. The IT destination has a total built-up space of about 4 million sq. ft, which is spread over 10 imposing structures besides the majestic Park Centre and ancillary support facilities. The whole campus is built on an eco-friendly note, set amidst lush green surroundings. All buildings in Technopark bear the names of some of the enchanting rivers of Kerala - Pamba, Periyar, Nila, Chandragiri, Gayatri, Bhavani and Thejaswini.

Connectivity
The Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is a 20-minute drive from the Technopark campus. The airport has direct connections to the Middle-East, Singapore, Colombo and Maldives. As for the railway, Trivandrum Central station is a major hub for all long distance trains passing by that route.
Situated on the National Highway, regular bus services link Technopark with commercial centres, research institutions and other urban centers.

Nearest Bus Station (For NH Buses): KazhakuttamTechnopark is well-connected by public transport to the city. Companies inside the Park run their own bus services. The Technopark Express travels in a ring route connecting the National highway NH 47, Technopark, and Kovalam - Kazhakuttam bypass road . The bus service runs between Kerala University Kariavattom campus, through Technopark to Kazhakuttam railway station both in the mornings and evenings.The Technopark Express bus service also runs continuously between the two ends of the Technopark campus, from Kerala University main gate to Kazhakuttam.
